About
We receive most of the food distributed in the hampers through donations from local grocery stores. However, what we receive is unpredictable and often is produce and carb heavy, but does not include proteins and items that accomodate those with dietary restrictions (gluten free etc). In order to balance this and provide food that can be used to make full meals we spend $400-$500 a week on supplementary food to add to the hampers.
More about what we do:
Who are we?
We are a community-driven organization premised on mutual aid that has been operating on Lekwungen territory since March 2020, providing around 75 families a month with free hampers delivered weekly. Food insecurity has always existed, but the onset of Covid-19 exacerbated the barriers many people face to accessing food.
How does it work?
Volunteer drivers pick up food from participating locations and transport it to a central location where it is safely sorted into individual boxes. We have outlined rigid health and safety standards for volunteers participating in the program to ensure it is as safe as possible. Community members in need of food can fill out a google form and request a free box for delivery. This program is designed to be as barrier free as possible.
If you are able to contribute at this time, we much appreciate it!
