People's Budget Athens

People's Budget Athens is a community-driven participatory budgeting project created in response to the urgent crises of pandemic, economic recession and police violence. Our mission is simple: We are dedicated to empowering communities to collectively decide how to spend public money - Our money. We have been asking Athens-Clarke County to redistribute funding to positive social services, small businesses, health care services, and other institutions that can more holistically support the thriving of Black, brown, and poor communities in Athens. We are tired of waiting for ACC to do right. 
It is time for us to make what we want real.

Thanks to a generous grant, People's Budget Athens has $10,000 to highlight REAL solutions for community safety that do not involve police and prisons, and we are turning to the people of the Nellie B community to decide how we spend that money.

Donations to this fund will support the neighborhood canvassing teams and provide mutual aid to the folks in Nellie B to support them in participating in this process to envision a future of REAL community safety for all.
